Wild orchids of British Channel Islands

Spotted Orchids

Healthy soil with fungal species is a preferable spot for wild orchids to grow.British Channel Islands are well known for the populations of wild orchids.

Three species of wild orchids were recorded:  the  “Jersey Orchid”, also known as the “Loose-flowered Orchid” (Orchis laxiflora), the “Southern Marsh Orchid” (Dactylorhiza praetermissa), and the Spotted Orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsia/maculata).
Southern Marsh Orchid

The Southern Marsh Orchid (Dactylorhiza praetermissa) is pinker in color then the Jersey Orchid and is slightly smaller in height. It has tightly packed flowers completely covering the upper part of the stem. Contrary to its name, they are more commonly found in the drier parts of the meadow. The Southern Marsh Orchids receive their nutrients from special microscopic soil fungi. With this special symbiotic relationship the flowers gain sugars and obtain their power of delicate blooms.
The Spotted Orchid has distinctive spotted leaves and pale pink flowers. It’s often much taller than the other orchid species in the meadow and is usually found growing in clusters.
Wild Orchids Meadow

Different orchid species use different fungal species that are sensitive to soil disturbance. Varieties of other species of wild orchids could be found only in a healthy ecological environment and represent some sort of organic test for natural
balance in the area.

How to deal with the sugar mania on Halloween.

Halloween is the crown jewel of holidays when it comes to sugar. Did you know that Americans consumed nearly 25 POUNDS of candy per capita in 2009? Or that the average American consumes about 100 POUNDS of sugar each year? You don't need a doctor or a dentist to tell you that this is a LOT of sugar, or carbohydrates.
When a person following a low carb plan eats a carbohydrate-rich food they can easily gain 1-3 pounds. However, this weight gain can be misleading because it is usually your body replenishing the fluid it lost and not gained fat. This 3 pound fluctuation becomes frustrating for many people and they end up with fluid weight thinking that it must be the half cup of rice they had the night before that caused them to gain that 3 pounds when in fact eating the rice just allowed them to regain some of the fluid they had lost from following a strict low carb plan. The fact is carbohydrates do not affect your weight quite that simply. Excess carbohydrates can strongly stimulate insulin production, which promotes fat deposition and increases appetite. This kind of weight gain will happen gradually, not dramatically overnight.
Just relax, it is nothing wrong to eat some candies on Halloween night, but take some precautions against sugar overeating. There are few choices to make:
· Avoid excessive sugar and don't eat it at all
· Eat organic carbohydrates
· Clean your body from excessive toxins you consumed
Halloween magic is that it provides you with the source for body detoxification. Pumpkin seeds are the best natural organic remedy for body detox cleanse. All the best natural nutritional supplements for body detox cleansing include pumpkin seeds. In fact, the most popular and famous Paranil, a liver and colon purifying complex, is based on pumpkin seeds. With a herbal detoxification the digestive system starts functioning in more efficient manner by absorbing more nutrients from the food and rejecting the toxins. The immune system is improved and the entire body system gets benefited from it. Pumpkin seeds contain omega fat acids and a high amount of magnesium which has a calming effect on the brain. The nutritive values of pumpkin seeds is:
· Vitamin A: 70 I.U.
· Vitamin B:
· Thiamine: .24 mg
· Riboflavin: .19 mg.
· Niacin: 2.4 mg.
· Calcium: 51 mg.
· Iron: 11.2 mg.
· Phosphorus: 1,144 mg.
· Fat: 46.7 gm.
· Carbohydrates : 15.0 gm.
· Protein : 29.0 gm.
Kids are the main consumers of the sugar mania on Halloween. Don’t give them a chocolate as a bribe to behave, give them some pumpkin seeds – it will help to calm them down. There is a children's formula of organic purifying Paranil complex. If you care, check out the best and easiest pumpkin seed recipe .

Are there purifying thoughts in world news mass media?

Kindle Wireless Reading Device, Wi-Fi, 6" Display, Graphite - Latest Generation

I have reduced watching and reading world news long time ago. I just couldn’t absorb the amount of paranoia it planted into my feelings and mind. I call it a mental toxin. The pressure of anxiety and fear is unbearable. Whether you feel overloaded by all the information that’s coming at you, or are thrilled by the opportunities it presents, you’ll find you need to keep it in balance. It’s why the news source is very important for a mental health and sanity. Way back in 1883 Mary Baker Eddy wrote:

“Looking over the newspapers of the day, one naturally reflects that it is dangerous to live, so loaded with disease seems the very air. These descriptions carry fears to many minds, to be depicted in some future time upon the body.”

She was a founder of  the Christian Science Monitor, that has a 100 year old charter stating that NO editorial control can be exercised by the owners. This Magazine has writers based in many countries, including Russia, China, France, the UK, South Africa, Mexico, India, as well as throughout the US. Their journalists write the stories that give the greater insight into the world, how other people think about things and see issues, one is not likely to find in other newspapers. The Magazine  has an international perspective from Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, Global Issues. It is always nice to know what’s going on in Spain airport, when you book a vacation, Why Angry Birds has invaded Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, Signs of a biotech backlash. There are unbiased, well- written, diverse articles. The information is delivered in a slight different approach compare to other newspapers.
The Christian Science Monitor covers the relevant news of the day, business and money, culture issues, art, environment, books, and more without any political or religious dogma. This Magazine can reach many homes with healing, purifying thoughts instead of paranoia, fear, annoying advertising and mental sickness of average world news media. Purifying thoughts instead of toxic programming and structuring - what a wonderful concept of a founder, Lady Mary Baker Eddy!  Since the last century Christian Science Monitor votes for sanity according to its healthy concept. And that is a great proof - it works! As I play with my Kindle lately I am very glad my favorite news source is available in Kindle Edition,  and I can enjoy my reading without interruption. The Kindle Christian Science Monitor Newspaper is auto-delivered wirelessly daily, and all Kindle Newspaper subscriptions start with a 14-day free trial. It worth every penny you spend ,by striving to publish information that " injures no man, but blesses all mankind."

Tina’s Sunday Brunch

A balanced brunch on Sundays is something that I allow myself to enjoy. It takes a little longer to cook, but provides all  the nutrients needed for the rest of the day. I use wild rice as an ingredient, since it contains carbohydrates and fiber while eggs and bacon add flavor and protein to the recipe.
Ingredients:
  • 3 eggs
  • Few slices of bacon
  • 1 cup of wild rice
  • 2 cups of water
  • 3 tbs shredded cheese
  • 1 tbs chopped dill and parsley
  • 1/8 tbs of salt
Cookware:
  • Non-stick skillet with a top
  • Glass bowl for mixing eggs
  • Pan for cooking rice
  • Whisk
  • Paper towel
  • Spatula
    Step 1.
Start with  wild rice. Wash  1 cup of wild rice and drain. Heat rice and water  to boiling. Reduce heat and cover. It will take from 40 to 50 minutes until some kernels will be open and the rice will absorb the water.
    Step 2.
While  rice is cooking, fry few bacon slices on medium-low heat for the crispy condition of your taste, turning often. Drain the fat and wipe the skillet with a paper towel.
Step 3. Grate your cheese, chop parsley and dill and prepare it all for the next step. Cooking the omelet requires only 3 minutes, and all ingredients must be ready.
   Step 4.
Turn your stove on medium and  let the skillet heat for 1min. At the same time break 3  eggs and place them in your  glass bowl, whisk them until combined but not too frothy.
Tip: I  mentally count to 80.
Pour the egg mixture into the skillet, and without moving the skillet, allow the eggs to set on the bottom. Mentally count to 20, then take a spatula and  stir the egg mixture, allowing the uncooked eggs on top to flow underneath and make direct contact with the skillet.

Spread the cheese, dill and parsley over the top of eggs and smooth the surface
very fast. Reduce heat to low, cover the skillet with a top and cook it for 2 min.
Tip: Set a timer to 2 min and avoid lifting the cover of the skillet. I know you are curious, but let it be!

After 2 min. remove the skillet from the heat, shake it and slide the omelet onto a warm plate. Fold the omelet in half  while you  are sliding it.
Step 5.
Check your wild rice consistency, it should be tender enough to chew. Combine wild rice, omelet and bacon on a plate. Add salt to taste and serve it.
For those who prefer low-fat diet or have a I recommend to exclude a bacon and replace it with few drops of olive oil. The flavor of extra virgin olive oil goes further, so you’ll use less. Wild rice fits perfectly even with a low- carb diet.

Organic Flowers Arrangements

Last weekend was a great celebration in my friend's house. They choose to make their own organic flowers arrangements. Good-quality fresh flowers are the key to longer lasting arrangements and there are some tricks how to amplify the life of cut organic flowers. As a general rule, flowers should be cut across the stem diagonally and immersed in deep water overnight before being used in an arrangement.
It is a big undertaking to prepare flowers arrangements and the saying " many hands make light work" can certainly be true. For few months we were practicing and looking for new ideas of decorating property for guests. The simplest way I found was with beautiful sun-flowers, and u-tube video below.
All what you need is flowers, florist wire, florist tape, 1 block of florist foam.

You always can order gorgeous  flowers for your DIY project here  from online florist.
Don't forget to give them a good drink all night before!

Some sage I cut in my forest walk a day before. Remove all leaves from the stems.
                                                      Tools. Foliage from the garden.
And  then follow the steps on this video.

It will look like this

                                          BEFORE
                                         AFTER

I hope you enjoy arranging flowers for your special celebration - I have had tremendous fun!
It gives you a unique sense of achievement when you see how pretty the look on the day!

Blooming beauty saves the world

Whether you enjoy the quiet peace of blooming meadow or decide to bring it to your home, it is always a special occasion, a call from your soul for harmony to share.
The beautiful Lupine gets its name from the Latin word lupus for “ wolf” and was once mistakenly thought to take nutrients from the soil. The sun loving lupine tends to sprout in recently cleared areas - such as under electrical power lines or along roadsides- and thrives in either acid- or alkaline-rich soils as long as there is adequate sun. No matter what somebody thought, the lavender, pink, white or rose flowers create magnificent eye catching landscape of their own world of beauty and harmony. Actually these “legumes”, through their roots, enrich the soil. It is what the latest scientific researches have discovered. The flowers were saving the soil!

I found it so fascinating when a flower gift comes with the realization of human contribution to the world.

Organic Bouquet is making their contribution by establishing special humanitarian programs for their products. Their Flowers for Good™ program was established to help their non-profit partners continue to make positive changes in the work they do.
Choose from any one of their charitable bouquets and 5% of your purchase will go toward making the world a better place.
Organic Bouquet ,The Nature Conservancy, National Wildlife Federation and The Ocean Conservancy have partnered to aid in the efforts to provide environmental relief from the oil spill in the Gulf. Now when you buy a gift from Gulf Relief Collection, $10 from the purchase of each of these products will be donated to help clean up the Gulf Oil Spill. The Relief campaign is valid on all items purchased and shipped from this page by July 31, 2010.Click here to make your contribution. Learn more of organic gardening.

Woodworking in Bible : Follow The Carpenter

Woodworking in a Bible is mentioned many times. In fact, it refers directly to Jesus Christ, who was called a Carpenter:

Mark 6:3
"Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?" And they took offense at Him.”

The second time The Lord Jesus Christ was called as a son of the Carpenter:

Matthew 13:55
"Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?"
  • What is so special in working with a wood?
  • Why this kind of occupation is attached to God?
Woodworking had an important place in Jesus' life. By any means, any speculations about "right" interpretation and translation are pointless.
  • What carpenters do?
They fix broken things and they create new ones. They work with special material and they use special tools. Their special material is living wood. After the tree is cut, the wood still lives.
The wood has qualities and potentials.
A carpenter focuses on it’s potentials and uncovers it’s qualities.
There is a deep spiritual meaning in woodworking: seeing a potential in every situation, no matter what happens. It is very natural for a human mind to focus on something what is going “wrong”. But there is a bigger picture.
I absolutely adore one gorgeous metaphor in Tommy Tenney book
It is a tale of what life must have seemed like for the almond branch. One can fully identify with this poor branch that only wanted to grow up and produce almonds, and has instead been cut off, dried, and stripped of its bark. From another prospective, there was a bigger picture for the almond stick! Aaron's staff ! It’s life became so much more fulfilling than just producing almonds!

Internet for woodworkers is a gold mine of resources available: woodworking plans online, blueprints, woodworking designs, woodworking tips online, woodworking projects for any set of skills either work from scratch or assemble prefab woodworking kits. Did you ever think about digital woodworking? It is possible with woodworking design software as well. Try Free 14 Day Trial of Scetchlist 3D

Every woodworking project for home and garden could become a family project and bring the joy of unity and cooperation for the whole family.

Practicing woodworking could become a spiritual exercise as well. Focus on potential, discover wider spectrum of qualities, see the bigger picture.

Tilley T5MO Organic-Airflo Hat, 7 1/8, Khaki
The Tilley Hats line is fantastic!

My father having battled skin cancer all year long.I know that the sun is not his friend. But he wanted
to enjoy Jamaican sailing cruise before the cyclone season.
Apparently, sun block alone won't protect you.I was very concern and picky for his gift for Father's Day. Finally I ordered him organic Tilley Hat.
This hat, in addition to sun block, should help it from recurring, I hope. He called me today and was sound very happy. He called it "My Tily" and said he doesn't have to look for his lost glasses anymore. He keeps
them in a pocket of his hat. He likes it so much he even wears it just sitting around the hotel.
What he loves about this hat, and the whole Tilley line, is that it's not a beach hat, like so many we see out there. This is a hat that you feel you can go anywhere in. Being made out of 100 % organic cotton,
it's breathable, washable, and offers full protection.
I am so glad he is happy!

Apple Fennel Coleslaw

Apple Fennel Coleslaw (Copyright)
I prefer Agave Nectar and mustard flour mixed with lemon juice (1 tbs of mustard flour-1 tbs of fresh squeezed lemon juice) for dressing. This combination gives the salad unique sweet-bitter flavor and excellent as side dish for shrimps or salmon.
Makes about 5 cups
Ingredients:
- 1 pound green cabbage, finely shredded
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
- 1/2 small red onion, finely chopped
- 1 tbs Agave nectar
- 2 tbs apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tbs mustard flour mix with 1 tbs lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons minced fresh tarragon leaves
- 1 large Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored, and cut into 1/4-inch pieces
- 1 medium head fennel, thinly slices (about 2 1/2 cups)
1. Toss cabbage and 1 teaspoon salt in a colander set over a medium bowl. Let stand until cabbage wilts, 1 to 4 hours. Rinse cabbage under cold running water (or in large bowl of ice water if serving slaw immediately). Press, but do not squeeze, to drain; pat dry with paper towels. Cabbage can be stored in a resealable plastic bag and refrigerated overnight. I let it stay longer for better taste.
2. Stir together onion, agave, vinegar, oil, prepared mustard, and tarragon in a medium bowl; set dressing aside. Immediately toss cabbage, apple, and fennel in dressing. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Break your stress eating

Breaking stress eating is not easy. Sometimes it is not appropriate to express the negativity. With an extra bite of sweet or drink we tend to bury our stress and frustration deeper. Literally, we laid the food to rest into our body's cells. Breaking stress eating  habits could restore metabolic function of  liver, kidneys and other "cleaning" body organs.
As a consequences of stress eating habits, the cells "gain fat" instead of normal working and neutralizing the toxins. With stress eating we deceive ourselves emotionally and physically.
Eating right and being physically active aren't just a "diet" or a "program"—they are keys to a healthy lifestyle. With healthful habits, we may reduce our risk of many chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and certain cancers, and increase our chances for a longer life. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans has been published jointly every 5 years since 1980 by the
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA). Find the last Brochure of 2005 here. We expect a new Brochure from these respectful Agencies soon in 2010.
Their general Guidelines are:
  • Make smart choices from every food group.
  • Find your balance between food and physical activity.
  • Get the most nutrition out of your calories.
The most people are aware of it, but still almost every other beginning fails... miserably.New fancy diet, new pills, new fitness center over the corner what you would like to visit... next Monday... maybe.
The general problems people have with healthy eating are:
  • Lack of knowledge and misleading with advertisement industry
  • Health disorders and toxic overexposure
  • Cultural and social behavior patterns
  • Lack of responsibility for their own well being
If you are struggling with overeating or stress eating and impulsive shopping there is a way to deal with the harmful habits.

Be ready for summer fire ants invasion

Science is looking for organic alternatives against fire ants invasion.
Red imported fire ants could be a real problem for home and garden.
Their invasion occurs when they “escape” from confined
areas. Sometimes an introduced plant or animal finding
itself in this situation will be aggressive or voracious, or
will carry parasites or disease, any of which can devastate an
ecosystem. People may experiment with organic composting at home, or dump no-longer-wanted pet fish or aquarium plants into a nearby pond or river, or discard yard waste or garden clippings in a nearby park.
  • The red imported fire ant species become invasive and do succeed, because the new ecosystems in which they find themselves offer favorable environmental conditions and lack the natural predators, competitors, and diseases that would normally keep their populations in check.
  • Invasive fire ants have not been officially culpable for any extinctions, but they are known to attack several threatened species, such as deer fawns, quail, ground-nesting waterfowl chicks, and reptiles.
  • Red imported fire ants occasionally cause human deaths, usually those of small children who crawl into mounds and receive multiple ant stings.
  • Red imported fire ants have also been problematic to humans during  the harvesting of certain crops like pecans.

In the control of red imported fire ant infestations, there are primarily two types of weapons: bait formulated insecticides and contact insecticides.

There are now a number of "organic", or less harmful and eco friendly, alternatives for fire ant control around the home and garden.
  • Spinosad is considered organic because it is produced from a bacterial fermentation process that produces a toxin, which is extracted and put into bait at very low concentrations. It works by disrupting the ant's nervous system. The spinosad baits (Justice, Eliminator Fire Ant Bait, Strike, Maxide, or Penn-Kill Fire Ant Killer) works well in small areas, or as an individual mound treatment.
  • Abamectin baits (PT 370 Ascend Fire Ant Stopper Bait and Raid Fire Ant Killer), control fire ants and related ants. It is a natural fermentation product produced by a soil microorganism, Streptomycetes avermitilis, an actinomycete.
  • There is also a contact dust containing pyrethrin and diatomaceous earth (Organic Solutions- Multipurpose Fire Ant Killer) that can be used as an individual mound treatment.

There are loads of choices available to use for battling fire ants around the home and garden. Although some are better than others, all have been proven to help reduce fire ant problems.

Organic Gardens are Eco Friendly

Burpee Ultimate Seed Starting SystemAs you might expect, if we use less space for commercial farms, we'll need to cut down fewer endangered rain forests and destroy fewer natural habitats. In addition, if commercial farms need to produce smaller numbers of produce, the less a need there will be for harmful pesticides that pollute rivers and other parts of the environment. Even if you feel that one person can't make a difference in ending these environmental problems, you'd be surprised at the benefits that would result if even a moderate number of people chose to grow some of their own vegetables.

Every year, millions of tons of vegetables rot because no one consumes them. At the same time, exorbitant food prices and the usage of harmful pesticides makes it almost impossible for a person to have a truly healthy diet. Growing your own vegetables isn't as complicated as many people believe. In fact, all you need is a pot, a plant, plus some soil, water and sunlight. If you make an effort to grow at least part of your vegetables in a home garden, you can help eliminate a wide number of environmental and financial issues.
Right the opposite, it could become a passion, hobby or profitable business.
